everytime i think about my visit to capetown, i have very fond memories of this place. this lodge brings together people from capetown who want to get away from the city, tourists from safaris traveling to/from capetown for a night's stay, adventurers/backpackers who found this place while city-hopping, athletes looking to cycle down the hills, etc etc. i loved the diversity of people that you meet here. i was traveling alone but you never felt it.
you can chose to live in a fully-furnished cabin with a bed. or a tent with a bed. or for even cheaper, you can bring along your own tent and sleeping bag and set it up yourself and just pay for the fee for camping. they have a solar-heater water system for the shower and bathroom so you might have cold showers in the winter time! but its still clean. they have a nice swimming pool for those who want to soak in the sun. or you can go on hike in the area and see bushman art. they have a fully furnished kitchen - you just need to bring your own food. there's a fridge and cooking utensils. and a nice eating area. or you can eat and chill in the boma. there were some times that we set up a campfire and played the african drums, supplied by them.
there is no electricity for the people who stay there. so bring your headlamps. when the sun sets, you'll need them. and its nice to live without your cell phone and internet for a few days. you can update your fb after the trip :)
one last great thing about this place was the owner's pet - hoka, the WOLF. this is why children and other pets are not allowed on the premises. the owner adopted him and lets him roam freely during the day and at night, chains him up or else he will go hunting. hoka doesn't eat alone so there's always someone there while he's eating his bone (all the way through unlike regular dogs).. super friendly but definitely a site to see.
