This country trattoria is a real gem. The sort of Tuscan tavern you always hope to find when visiting Italy. The food is simple and good with an excellent range of choices. The service is excellent. The owners are welcoming. The atmosphere is just great - on a recent trip to Tuscany, we had lunch there one day, and dinner a few days later. The lunch crowd was partly working people from the area, and some tourists. At dinner, every table was booked, with many locals who knew the owners and the staff, and many tourists. Everyone seemed pleased and totally at ease. No surprise wonder - the prices are so reasonable, and the food so good! Take the house wine - like everything else here, it is simple, reasonably priced and genuine. We loved everything about this place, their sparkling white tablecloths, the food, the staff, the view.
Cacciatore is an old and pretty building on the roadside, about 8km from Monte San Savino, on the SS73 road to Siena. On both occasions we visited, there were lines of cars outside. The hillside setting is beautiful, and after a great meal, we wandered off to explore nearby Pallazuolo, a really pretty village off the tourist track. This is an ideal restaurant. Do not expect fancy food or service: what you will get is simple, genuine, hearty Tuscan food, great service, very reasonable prices, in an immaculately clean establishment with a great atmosphere. Cannot recommend this too highly.
