My husband and myself stayed at this hotel from the 4th to the 18th may on a half board basis, we booked it in December 2011, I emailed the hotel direct twice to request a room in or near the main building, both emails were ignored, my husband has two bad knees and is waiting for an operation, I requested the room in the main building as I has read that the cable car sometimes is a problem. When we arrived at the hotel we were told that there were no rooms available in the main building even though at that time the hotel was not full, I explained about my husbands bad knees and was told again there was no rooms in the main building, we were given room 358 which was supposed to be a sea view room which we had paid extra for, it is not and never will be a sea view room, it is half a mountain and half a tree view room, I came back to reception and asked them to confirm that it was a sea view room and the lady on reception showed me a plan of the hotel and pointed out it was a sea view room, it most definitely is NOT. We were not told at this time that the cable car was not working and each day was told the next day,the next day it was a week before the cable car was up and running, we had been ferried up and down by the porters in a golf buggy, the porters are fantastic but it was not always convenient for them but they were the best thing about this hotel. In our non sea view room which we had paid for there was no air conditioning for the whole 2 weeks we were there, we kept reporting it and occasionally they would send an electrician but to no avail, we also had no trouser hangers in our room and asked each day from Friday to Tuesday if we could have some, we eventually spoke to saskia the Thomson rep who got us some hangers and tried to help with the air conditioning and it defeated her as well, she did arrange through Thomson (not the hotel) for us to get some wine and fruit as a sorry which was really kind of her she was great and really cared about her guests. The problem with the air conditioning seemed to affect a block of rooms around the 300s. We also had a problem with the hair dryer in our room which took 2 days to fix and then only because of saskia as the hotel never bothered about it. I would like to know how the hotel management decide on the criteria in who to put in the main building , we met a couple who were in their late 60s and the wife had a medical condition and needed her medication 4 times a day and had to be kept refrigerated so he needed to go all the way back to the room to get it, he asked for a room in the main building and was told there was none available, on the day we left whilst waiting for our transport we saw lots of young couples being taken up in the lift to the main building. Before we left we had lunch and heard a lady who was leaving that day and told another couple who had just arrived if they did not want a room down the mountain as we were to go to reception and tell them they wanted a room in the 100s he went and came back after a short while and said they had given them a room in the main building, all these people were under 30 years of age. The rooms are a good size and if you manage to avoid the 300s you will get air conditioning, the bathrooms are a good size but the shower floods the bathroom when used. Overall we were very disappointed with this hotel we would not have booked it if we had known the cable car did not work, it is also very isolated but the views are fantastic, plenty of sunbeds and towels. Just a mention of the safe in your room some of them are left open and can be used free of charge some are closed as ours was and the hotel wanted to charge us 35 euros to use it, we did not pay! . We have 3 to 4 holidays each year and are experienced travellers and we usually choose well on this occasion we did not and would not recommended the hotel and will certainly not be returning. Also for the first 5 days of our holiday there were children in the hotel, apparently their hotel was not available and so put them in this one (couples only!) we also found out these guests were given a room in the main building.
Avoid the sea view rooms in the 300s or you may get a tree view! And get air conditioning
