We recently returned from 11 nights at the Luz Beach Apartments (front facing) owned by The Travel Club of Upminster. We last stayed there about 15 years ago and nothing much has altered in that time, except a lick of paint and the severe cutting back of the lovely bougainvillea in the terraces (shame). We had spent the previous 11 nights at Lagos Marina in a private apartment which was very luxurious, so we shouldn't really compare, but it took some getting used to having a lot less space.
The apartments rely principally on the amazing view and unbeatable location at the beach, however in the 21st century I do think it would be wise to look at updating the apartments to match the kind of expectations visitors have today. The apartment is furnished with 1970's pine furniture, equipped with a stainless steel coffee/tea set and main meal plates that could barely hold one pork steak. The sofa (which was also a bed, I think) was not very comfortable; the lamps had peeling lampshades and cracked bases and the chest of drawers fell apart as soon as I pulled open a drawer. The TV showed BBC1/2, and ITV 1 and Sky News (no Channel 4). There was a welcome pack of tea, coffee, milk etc. and a newly supplied mini-oven/grill. The beds on the lower group (two singles) were firm and comfortable. There was no air conditioning, but two fans were supplied.
The maid service was exemplary and any problems were soon fixed by Julia and Brian (the management team) who were very friendly and informative. Julia even accompanied me to the dentist on our last day, when I managed to crack my tooth.
You do have free access to Ocean Club's own facilities (adults only and family pools, restaurants etc.) but it's a walk up the hill and most of the time we were happy to sit on the balcony, walk the promenade or sit and walk on the beach.
Eating out in the local restaurants came to about Euros 50 for two people (starter and main course each, 1 beer and 1 glass of wine). We dined at the Atlantico restaurant twice and O'Poco once. Cheaper alternatives were the cafes, the local pizza takeaway/restaurant opposite the Havana cafe or self-catering from the well-stocked Baptiste supermarket. There are limited evening activities and so this wouldn't really be the sort of place for club-seeking teenagers. It's a very chilled out, friendly and family fun place with a great beach. Enjoy!

Since the family spent a holiday in our Luz Beach Apartments in July 2007 there have been many changes.
New kichens with modern micorwave ovens and new equipment has been installed - electric toasters/kettles/fruit juice squeezers for fresh orange juice every morning. Re covered and upholstered comfortable easy chairs, no setee beds as seperate beds are supplied for children up to 14 year old.
To enjoy the beach / sea view with the pedestrain walk way between the apartments and the beach, teak chairs with cushions are supplied. Even a cool box for picnics is provided. Sun loungers complement the terrace. A 1st class supermarket is 5 minutes walk away, and free parking right outside the apartments,
