We stayed here for two nights and have to agree with the majority of comments, this place is certainly quirky, in a nice way.
The friendly staff, excellent food and the great range of malt whiskies and Belguim beers are the strong points of The Anderson.
Our room was relatively spacious, more than adequate and clean, although Jim (the owner) did say that improvements still need to be made in this area.
We had two wonderful nights sleep, two great evening meals with the food being exceptionally well cooked and two hearty breakfasts.
We would definitely stay here again.
Jim and his staff are very welcoming and always happy to engage in conversation.

A warm, snug bar/dining area is enlivened by a wood-burning stove and here you are offered a remarkable menu drawn up and prepared by the award-winning, inventive owners. Jim is pleased when his guests are pleased. Good humour is everywhere, starting with a compact dimly-lit theatrical reception area complete with fishing rods and a fish dangling from kitchen scales. The wine list, starting with suggestions of bottles at £720, causes a sharp intake of breath, until Jim's tongue-in-cheek humour is recalled and at the other end of the list is deliciously normal. Quirky humour in the bar extends to the 'only classical music juke box in Britain' offering Beethoven Symphony No 1, No 2, No 3 and so on via Chopin etc... Does it work ? Don't know - people here prefer to eat and drink, and can explore the record number of malt whiskies using imaginative tasting offers. Also there are 200 Belgian beers. Or is it 300. Yes, Belgian beers. That's Jim again. Upstairs is cosy but with real pillows and warm downies.

Less than half an hour from the centre of Inverness, this must be THE place to stay in the area.
My room, up two flights of a delightful staircase, was newly refurbished and though on the small side was close to perfection. Ample storage space, comfortable cozy bed, tea, coffee, biscuits, mint chocolate on the pillow, and even a selection of books. The fully tiled en-suite shower room had a tablet of soap (so much better than a liquid squirting device) and bottles of shampoo, shower gell and body lotion.
Downstairs there are two bars. A public bar with an open fire and friendly locals, and, also with friendly locals, a 'whisky bar' with perhaps 200 whiskies on display. Beer is a speciality too, with around 100 Belgian beers and three hand pumps of perfectly kept, ever changing and often less commonly available, Cask conditioned ales.
I opted to take my dinner in the Whisky Bar on both nights of my stay. The food, all prepared by Anne Anderson, though perhaps a little more expensive than in most Inns, was as good as it gets and worth every penny. It was no surprise to hear of the many accolades chef Anne Anderson has gained.
An ample delicious breakfast was taken in the superbly decorated restaurant with its original cornice.
From arrival to departure, service was faultless. Without exception, the staff are cheerful, friendly and helpful; and the ever watchfull eye of Jim Anderson ensures all runs as smooth as clockwork.

I visited with my wife on an impromptu short holiday to the Black isle and found the comments of other Tripadvisor contributors to be well founded.
The overall ethos at The Anderson Hotel comes from the USA background of the owners Jim and Anne Anderson, service is a given since Jim is ever present seeing things happen the way he expects. It is also nice to encounter a pleasant and motivated staff led from the front by Jim. The kitchen is the domain of Anne. It goes without saying that food and drink are well catered for and prices are reasonable considering the quality on offer.
The hotel appears to be being refurbished as they can afford but has an eccentric, homely feel to it.
It struck us that the nice ambience was also matched by the nice guests and customers; there was always the opportunity for pleasant conversation with others in either the Whisky Bar or the Dining Room.
I am sure we shall return when in this lovely area of Scotland again.
