We travelled to Fuerteventura for a ten-day break in November with Thomas Cook from Birmingham Airport. Not a lot of legroom between the seats and no in-house entertainment, which made for a long flight. The couple in front of us dropped their seats back as soon as the plane leveled off and donned eye masks why? It was 9.30am for goodness sake! The transfer to the resort was very good and quite a nice way to see some of the countryside, and Costa Calma. Bit of mix-up at the hotel when the bus driver dropped everyone off at the Jandia Playa when most of us were going to the Jandia Mar. We jumped back on the bus and were off again within a few minutes. Check-in was efficient and my request to change the room (I don't like ground floor rooms - hate the thought of cats making use of the patio furniture!) was dealt with without any fuss. We were shown to the poolside bar to get a drink whilst our luggage was taken to our room. The room was fine, very clean, and spacious with a very powerful shower, which was great. The grounds at both hotels are immaculate, and spacious. The first meal at the Jandia Mar wasn't too great (we didn't go down until late) but the rest of the time (once I had found the microwave) it was fine, although we tended to use the Jandia Playa for most of our meals. There is a lovely terrace to eat outside at the Jandia Playa and eating breakfast in the fresh air was great way to start the day. Their food was hot, there was more choice, and the restaurant was more spacious. Only complaint would be that smoking is allowed on the terrace where meals are taken which was quite unpleasant at times: could this be made a 'no smoking' area as there are lots of other areas for people to smoke? The pools were absolutely gorgeous, but cold. If you could manage to get in without having a heart attack they were very refreshing! Lots of pools and areas to choose from and we never felt we were penned in, there were plenty of sun beds available at all times and absolutely no need to 'reserve' them by leaving towels on them. The staff were all very pleasant and if you try a little Spanish when speaking to them it goes down as nicely as a large, cold G&T! We didn't see much of the entertainment but there is one couple that play both hotels who were excellent. I can't remember what they are called but the chap looks like Elvis / Elvis Costello. The beach was glorious and it was a nice walk down to the town. OK must mention the nudies: is it the law that when you are 70+ in Germany you disrobe? Weird: and as for the chap jogging in just trainers and a tee-shirt – not pretty and definitely not normal! Having been to Jandia a couple of times we had never managed to walk as far as the harbour, but this time we managed it and were rewarded by seeing two huge manta rays. It is the cleanest water in a harbour we have ever seen - you could see the bottom and was well worth the walk. The infamous hill did get a bit tedious so we made our way back via the lift and called in for a drink at the many bars and just took our time – Fuerteventura is not the place to go for a ‘rush’! There is a bus that runs every 30 minutes that stops right outside the hotels and costs €1.50 if you don't fancy the hike. The weather was absolutely gorgeous and just what we needed to get us through the early part of winter. We will definitely go back to Jandia Resorts, providing TC still offer the use of both hotels.
