The lodge is located in a rather secluded place within the valley, the only way to it being a mountain dirt road that can be damaged after a rain, so you have a chance of getting stuck there for some time or be unable to get there. But the views and ambience are beautiful and more than pay for this inconvenience.

The rooms are actually a sort of large and very cosily appointed "townbungalows" stuck together in small groups. An electric heater sort of heats the room but the bathroom remains a bit cold (this might depend on the room number/type). The buffet breakfast is very good.

I am afraid the place is unsuitable for disabled people because of lots of steep stairs that need to be taken from the parking to the reception and then to the rooms/bungalows.

We came here for 2 nights/ 3 days in the middle of our 2 week trip through Peru. We absolutely loved this hotel! The staff was great and very friendly. We loved the hot springs and even enjoyed a nice lunch for two one day. We had the place all to ourselves. It was just my wife and I and our chef and table server. We stayed in room 25 and it offered a great view of the canyon. We both enjoyed the food here and loved coming back to our room after dinner to find warm water bottles in our bed and chocolates. We did several short hikes from the hotel as well as a horseback ride. This was one of our favorite stops on this trip as it was a nice break in the middle. We relaxed here and regrouped for the rest of the trip, down to Lake Titicaca and then up to Machu Picchu.

The rooms here are spacious and simple, with hardwood floors and clean white bedlinen. Staff are friendly. The dinner buffet offers a range of tasty dishes, but on both nights we were there the temperature of the food was lukewarm at best.
Undoubtedly the biggest attraction are the natural hot springs, and there are several pools of varying temperatures in which guests can wallow whilst overlooking the river which runs through the gorge. If you're game for a thrill, walk over the rope bridge not far past the lodge (entry fee: 1 sol) – it's very high and sways a lot. Afterwards, treat yourself to a Pisco Sour at the lodge's bar near the thermal pools — highly recommended.

Stayed here for a night after a very long drive from Arequipa. Spending time sipping drinks while soaking in the hot tub looking at the mountain scenery was very relaxing after that drive.

I recall the food here being very good to excellent and service being adequate. The trout ceviche was delicious. There may have been some misunderstandings as we were a group of six and this can be confusing if several people are talking at once.

I'm not a dog person, but there were these three very friendly and cute dogs that were hanging around (see photo) the lodge.

At night it got quite cold but the staff had put a hot water bottle in the bed as part of turn-down service. It became my friend for the night.

In the morning we wandered off to Colca Canyon to see the condors, but we probably lingered at breakfast a little too long. I think we would have seen more condor had we left earlier.

We took the advice of other travellers and stayed two nights - it was well worth it after several hours of travelling from Arequipa to get here, and then having the luxury of not having to get up at the crack of dawn to head off to see condors and to pack up and leave the hotel. It's in an idyllic location beside the river, with the hot springs to relax in (although don't do what I did, and stick your hand through the wire mesh over the hottest pool - into water about 80 degrees centigrade ! Ouch)

The rooms are well sound proofed from neighbours, and strung out in a long row. Beds are dry and warm, and a heater is provided for those chilly evenings. Tip - move your heater into the freezing bathroom when you go to bed and leave it on low all night - nice warm bathroom to get up to in the morning. Lighting is poor, not helped by small windows. The hotel provides some basic toiletries, and also a small selection of "minibar" items. Bring your own water, unless you want to pay 3 to 4 times the going rate for a bottle of water.

If you are travelling independently, get your driver to take you to the Condors via the other side of the river from the norm. That way, you get to travel through a couple of really interesting villages, one of which has a spectacular church - the village is called Lari. Also, you get teh road to yourself, which reduces the dust intake !

When you arrive, make sure to reserve your dinner table for that night - get one beside the fire as the dining room is very cold. Tea is available all day in the lounge.

I had only 2 criticisms of the hotel - I paid for something on a Visa travel card (i.e. a prepaid credit card) and they put the payment through 5 times and only reversed it twice. I am still trying to get the money back. Secondly, the food in the dining room is not inspiring and quite expensive, although breakfast is good. Suggest you get your guide to take you to lunch away from the hotel, so you only need to eat dinner there. (There are no other choices, unless you have a vehicle available to you).
