My husband and I visited Greece in September and October 2006. We asked for 5 star properties as we have found in our past travels to Europe, that even many 4 star properties have been found to be unsuitable to us in terms of basic things, such as cleanliness, helpfulness and location. At the Princess of Mykonos, we paid extra to have a "sea-view" room. Unfortunately, this "sea view" was mostly obstructed by some outbuldings of the hotel as well as a luxury private home bult overlooking the sea, but in front of the "sea view" rooms of the hotel. The room was quite spacious and adequate, but the bathroom was microscopic and the shower was a crooked rod with a theadbare curtain which in no way served to contain the water produced with each shower. As a result, each day the bathroom and parts of the bedroom floors were soaked with water up to an inch high. The housekeeping staff did a good job of mopping this up, but in a supposed 5 star hotel, how much would a glass shower enclosure cost?!
There were not many people staying at the hotel during our visit as it was "shoulder season". They have a lovely salt water swimming pool and padded loungers which was very relaxing. We were usually the only ones there. Unfortunately, we were not informed that both the restaurant and the bar had closed for the season. At least the breakfast was quite good with a varied sampling of foods, including regular and chocolate croissants, bacon, sausage, eggs, toast etc. They also have a lovely outside terrace where you can have your breakfast should you choose to.
The thing that was most bothersome to us is that we did not know that this hotel is quite a ways from Mykonos town and the beaches. The bus service is erratic at best and there are not many taxis about and you are likely to be crammed into a cab with several other people, all going to different places. Everyone ends up paying for everyone else's ride!! Had we known, we would have chosen accomodation closer to Mykonos town as you really have to go there to dine each evening, All in all, in our opinion The Princess of Mykonos is a 3 star property at best. If this is the only "room in town" (actually out of town) then go for it, but otherwise choose somewhere else.
