“Disappointing stay”

Mykonos Grace

We stayed here in April at the beginning of the season- we were actually the first guests. However the hotel was not ready, they were still cleaning, doing maintenance work - we could hear drilling from our room and using the only lift stopping us from using it.

We booked in 2007 and were given a "special offer" of paying 2007 and being given an upgrade if room available. We were shown to our room which was OK, not great and faced the busy road. Had a balcony but did not use it as felt very overlooked as by road and there was still work going on outside hotel to get it ready for the season- even though paying guests were already staying there. My husband asked if we had been upgraded which apparently they had (no one mentioned the upgrade at check in)- all I can say is I would have hated to see the original room as this was not that big and very poor value for money.

We tried to get dinner at the restaurant on the first night but the menu was not ready. We received a phone call in our room from the chef who apologised that the menu was not ready but he could read out the menu to us! Not very professional and how long does it take to print out a menu??? The following day we asked the Executive Housekeeper for a menu and he said it was not ready but he would bring it to our room. Later he said it was ready and he would deliver a copy. But this never arrived nor did the cocktails he promised to deliver to our room so we could watch the sunset whilst having a drink.

Breakfast was the highlight but on the first morning we turned up at 9am and nothing was ready . The OJ and coffees were nice as were the prepared to order items- especially the pancakes- from the menu but nothing was cleared when it was finished and half the dishes did not have spoons to serve from and we were the only ones in the bar and there were 2 members of staff there.

The pool was nice if a little cold in April. None of the surprises that are mentioned on the website were delivered- on one day we were given a glass of water! The staff seemed happier to chat amongst themselves.

We went for privacy and to relax but found it difficult to relax with the executive housekeeper constantly asking us what we were doing everytime we saw him and we just wanted to chill by the pool. At the same time he offered no useful advice!!He saw us go down for breakfast and when we got back the room had not been tidied and instead he called us 10 minutes after we returned to see if we wanted it tidied.... it seemed very illogical considering that we were one of 2 rooms occupied at the time.

Overall it was not worth the money. The service was not very good- reception were friendly but the staff were not really sure on what they needed to do, the hotel was a trek from town without a car, the restaurant was not available, they were not ready for the season. On the plus side the champagne breakfast was nice and it was served quite late. There was a good bathroom in the room as well.

I would not recommend this hotel to anyone- there are better properties on the island.

“heavenly holiday”

Mykonos Grace

Mykonos Grace has been beautifully refurbished. The heavenly pool on the roof with scrummy cocktails; the very comfortable games room with great big white sofas, backgammon, books, tv etc... We loved the little window between the bathroom and the bedroom, although the bedroom was on the small side (as was the mini fridge!). We enjoyed watching the many cruise ships come into and leave the port, though it wasn't too noisy. The hotel mini bus was very useful as taxis can be hard to come by, and the walk into town is a little hairy. The food on the island can be a little hit and miss, not to mention exorbitant, but would highly recommend Nammos on Psarou Beach (best value on the Island as well as being impeccably stylish, but book a taxi home in advance).

“Once was enough”

Mykonos Grace

The Mykonos Grace is a reasonably good hotel. Not a great, fabulous, unbeatable hotel as described by so many on here. In fact, those messages are in many ways inaccurate. They seem to be nothing but cleverly worded scripts. Beware the hype.

Over the years we have stayed at The Belvedere, The Theoxenia and the Grande. This year we chose the Mykonos Grace solely on the reviews here. To be frank, those other hotels provided us with a much better vacation and services.

Many Mykonos Grace reviewers mention collection at the port or airport and made it seem to be a special service. For the room rates we were paying I’d have insisted on it, free of charge. Most hotels on Mykonos offer free collection wherever and whenever you arrive so the Grace is absolutely no exception. If the service isn't offered free then negotiate. We have never yet paid for any transfers.

For us, the important thing is a great view. Our Mykonos Grace bedroom didn’t have it. In fact from many parts of the hotel the view isn’t very good. The road close to the front of the hotel is annoying as is the sound of traffic using it.

Our bedroom was OK. Nothing special though and our expectations weren’t met. Again we made the mistake of believing what has been said in their reviews. ‘OK’ is not good enough at the rate we were charged. It was small, although its décor was stylish and modern.

The journey time into town is a little over ten minutes and not five, as is often claimed in other reviews.

Never forget folks, customer service is what it is all about. Bearing in mind our previous experiences at other hotels on the island, you guys need to take some lessons from the folks at the Grand or Belvedere.

Taxis in the evening to get back to the hotel were a problem. We were there in April when you would imagine there would be no difficulty but there was. In high season it would be very difficult to find a way to get ‘home‘. There is no bus service to and from the town.

The style of the place is not so special. Built using the traditional Mykonos sugar cube style it is no different than many other hotels on the island. The style isn’t unique to the Grace.

Sorry guys. This is all very negative but the hype raises expectations that were not met. Perhaps had I not stayed at other equally expensive hotels on the island I would have no complaints. Having experienced what the same money can get me elsewhere on Mykonos it’s only fair to say that we won’t be back.

I think the hotel was fairly new when we stayed there. The rooms were beautiful and clean, and ours had a private outdoor terrace with a hot tub. Great perks. This place doesn't have a great view and is a little bit out of town (less than 5 minutes by cab), but the value made it worth it to stay here. The hotel also has a great pool. The staff was extremely nice, they provided transportation to the airport, and they were willing to drop us off in town whenever they were heading in that direction. I would definitely stay here again if I were to return to Mykonos

Once you get there you are simply charmed by it. Everything there seems to be taken from your "how-I'd like my perfect vacation-to-be"-dream. Omnipresent and almost mind-reader personnel, super tasty food, creative chef, exquisite view, great swimming pool, kingsize bed perfect for your honeymoon; luxurious and, yet, intimate athmosphere.
All those little things that make your life worth living, everything keeps you from forgetting it.

Efharisto para poli!!
