Based on reviews and recommendations from guidebooks, I was convinced to go on the Trilogy sail excursions and snorkeling. Alii Nui came highly recommended from our hotel staff, and now I know why! This trip was absolutely amazing. Our hotel pickup driver was very friendly and safe. We arrived at the harbor and wouldn't you know Alii Nui is parked next to Trilogy and I was immediately grateful we didnt choose the latter. If you want a good deal and don't mind being crammed with 100 of your best friends, Trilogy might be for you. As soon as we hopped on board Alii Nui we were treated to a wonderful breakfast of eggs, bacon, yogurt, muffins, croissants, fresh fruit, bagels, a delicious way to start the day! The captain and crew introduce themselves before you take off which makes for a very friendly and inviting atmosphere. We went to Turtle Point and had a fabulous boat ride. The crew served us waters and juices and took pics during the sail. On our arrival to turtle point, we were geared up with state of the art snorkel gear, including a half shirt wetsuit if the water is a little too cool for your taste. They have two large swim staircases to ease you into the water, no jumping or awkward ladders on this vessel! My husband and I had a blast! Of course we saw fish and coral, along with turtles and monk seals. On board the ship is a professional underwater photographer who captures great pics of your group in action. His CD is very reasonable at $40 and has a bunch of great photos. We stayed in the water the entire time, about 2 hours, which is plenty enough time to enjoy the turtles and work up your appetite again! Apparently they served a snack of veggies and homemade salsa to those who came in earlier- there was plenty left when we got back on board but lunch smelled so delicious, we skipped the snacks. We had a feast for lunch which included delicious BBQ and two kinds of salad and also 3 adult beverages of your choice. Their selection of drinks does not leave one desiring! 4 Maui brewing Co beers, wine, champagne, and of course juice and water. The trip ended with us sipping our bikini blondes on the bow while cutting through the waves. Overall, this boat and crew are Amazing and I would take any trip with them! Every time we go back to Maui, we will definitely revisit the Alii Nui.
The snorkeling trip to turtle island would be appropriate for families with children who snorkel, couples, even those young at heart! They offer a quick lesson if you are a first timer and also flotation if you aren't the best swimmer (kick boards, noodles, flotation belt).
