I have never been to Cuba, and i would sooo go again! We went for 2 weeks just the 4 of us. We stayed at the 5* Hotel Playa Pesquero in Holguin- i've never seen a hotel like that and i have been to quite a lot of places. The lobby area is so pretty- with lots of little ponds- very asian looking with lots of sofas and chairs to sit in with a cocktail or 2! The hotel isnt the usual tower block, the rooms are set in bungalow type houses with about 10-15 rooms in each. The rooms are absolutly huge with 2 massive beds (twin) and a queen size bed in others- there is more than enough room for 2 people and very clean- we could have our linen and towels changed every day or whenever we wanted- and then they would dress the towels in some beautiful way such as swans e.t.c. All these bungalows are dotted around the absolutly huge hotel- they are easy to get to- you can even catch one of the buggies so that you can be quickly taken back to your room!
The site itself is beautiful- the pool is absolutly huge and i would definately recommend the pool-bar! There are more than enough sunloungers and shade so dont worry. You get your beach towels there and can change them as many times as you like. The beach- o my god- i've never seen one like it- lovely and white sand, blue clear waters- you'll see what i mean when u get there!
The food was excellent- the buffets have more than enough food for everyone and the restaurants were great- i would recommend the asian, vegetarian and romantic one- i found the grill didnt have much choice and we didnt get round to the italian.
The night life was good also- they had shows on every day either in the theatre and they also had one in the sports pool.
I would recommend this place for any age because there is so much to do.
No-one got ill so if your worrying about the water- you have bottled water in the restaurants and in your room and if you ask for water from the bar- it is filtered so no worries!
The people are sooo friendly and will do anything you- give them a little tip because they appreciate it so much,
All in all an excellent stay- would defineately go again!

We got married here Jan 29th/07, it was the wedding of my dreams. We had 65 family and friends join us there for our wedding on our 2 week. The beach wedding was beautiful, and they took care of everything, I couldn't have asked for more. Food was amazing, no complaints at all.

We travelled with First Choice for the first time and i would recommend them. The flight was on time and the food was good with plenty of legroom.
Our first impression of Playa Pesquero was excellent. The hotel looked very grand in the reception area. We were slightly disappointed with the check-in as it was very slow but we were given a welcome cocktail which certainly helped! :o)
Our room was clean and tidy and we were not overlooked by the other apartments which was nice - just the trees!
The buffet restaurants were okay but could sometimes be a bit hit and miss as sometimes the food was a bit cold but as long as you don't mind waiting for a bit the chef's will cook you something hot there and then. The booked restaurants were excellent. Our favourite was La Gondala but we also enjoyed The Romantica and The Grill (we were disappointed that they closed this on our 2nd wk as the hotel wasn't busy enough apparently). My advice would be to start booking your restaurants up as soon as possible as they got booked up quickly and we seemed to be left with some of the later times (one at about 9:30pm).
The beach was absolutely stunning. It was so calm it was like a lake and so warm as well. We made full use of the pedaloes and also did a bit of snorkelling, which was great. We had a go on the Hobbie-Cats too but if its a windy day, as it was when we did it, be warned that they do flip up on their sides! I personally didn't like this but my other half did.
We liked the pool too but spent most of our time at the beach.
Evening entertainment was 50:50 as with most AI resorts.
The staff were lovely - really friendly.
We did a couple of trips. Drive your own speedboat, which was great fun and also the trip into downtown Holguin, whcih was really enjoyable also. I would recommend both these trips (but not if you have children). Both were great value for money.
We had excellent weather for the majority of our stay, which was 17 nights. It was sunny and hot (around 30degrees) and just a couple of days here and there when it was cloudy or raining in the afternoon.
All in all we had a great time and although i wouldn't necessarily go back to the same hotel (we like trying different places) i would love to go to Cuba again!

We travelled on the 26th April for 10 nights with Thomas Cook. This hotel is truely amazing there is not one single thing you could possibly change or complain about. The food was out of this world in every restaurant but our favourite has to be the romantica a la carte. The service is second to none the staff are very friendly and can not do enough for you. All drinks at the hotel were named brands. The rooms were cleaned to a high standard everyday. Do not believe the rumours about bed bugs or sand flees - there mosi bites and if you use mosi sprays - theres not a problem!

We went on the speed boat trip - which was great fun the only trouble is it does not last long enough!. We also went on Cuba Inside - we travelled on a steam train, visited a cigar factory, visited Holguin town and then had lunch at a cuban farmhouse with baby chickens running round my feet - which was an experience.

But you can not beat laying next to the fantastic pool, with a cocktail in your hand. Once I have finished typing this message I am booking to go back next year.

This is truely an amazing hotel and fantatsic value for money whilst being in the caribean weather what more can you want.
