On a recent visit to Leeds I took some time out to visit some relatives in Stockton-on-tees. They suggested that we call here for lunch.
With lunch finishing at 2 pm we were a bit late arriving, I think we got here for around 1.50 pm but this seemed to be no trouble to the staff, they informed us they were due to finish lunch at 2 pm (we had phoned earlier to check) but we should still have time to order.
We took a look at the specials sheet but all of us decided to order from one of the many dishes on the blackboard(s). All three of us decided to go with the fish and chips, we were not waiting too long either for it to be served up which was a good thing as I was feeling a bit peckish at this stage.
The fish and chips and mushy peas were really good, the fish was served with a very light batter some places you visit may have more batter than fish but that did not seem to be the case here.
For lunch we had the cheese cake, eton mess and a lemon cake. I think all three of us agreed the desserts were very good. Even though they looked to be closed for the afternoon with everyone gone there was no pressure from the staff member who was left to ask me to finish my pint and for us to leave. In saying that we were no hanging around just for the sake of it either.
Overall a lovely traditional english country side pub, with low ceilings and large wooden beams on the ceiling.
I would have no hesitation visiting again when I would be back in the UK and in the area.
