Glencoe Rural Retreat is absolutely charming!
Would fully recommend staying there as a base to explore Burnie (1/2 hr), Devonport (45mins), Stanley ( 2 hours)or even Cradle Mountain (1 hr).
Do choose the dinner option with your stay, as it would be the best dinner you could have in that part of town, prepared by the hostess Ginette personally and with produce from her garden as much as possible. Be prepared to try anything, as there are no choices with your dinner or breakfast, but be assured that it would be delicious!
The first night we had a fresh tomato and basil soup for entree, twice cooked lamb shoulder for mains and homemade berry sorbet for dessert.
The second night, Tasmanian smoked salmon and grated beetroot for entree, roast chicken with porcini mushroom sauce, dessert-pineapple cake with vanilla ice-cream.
Breakfasts were toasts, yoghurst, homemade fruit compotes, jams and freshly baked croissants.
As with everything else, it is all the attention to detail that made the stay wonderful--Villeroy and Boch serving ware, L'Occitane toiletries, warm towels, cotton sheets, clean fresh linen in immaculate rooms and warm fires in the lounge room.
Then there's lovely Ginette herself....
Oh and do buy some jam on your way home, delicious!
