The pick up at the airport was prompt. We had a 3 hr wait at the private lounge, which was great. The plane ride is a little further than a lot of other hotels but is worth the wait.
This hotel is small in a good a way! The entire island is easily walkable in 30-45 min, but this also implies that there a limited number of villas. If I'm not mistaken, there are only 50 water and land villas, each exemplary. Through out my whole trip although the resort was booked to capacity, I never felt the island to be overcrowded or busy (except at the spa-where I didn't get an appointment since all the slots were full! Serves me right for not calling in advance!) Again, its not a big resort where you need to wait for a buggy to ferry you around! Everything is a short walk.
Rooms: We stayed in 2 types of rooms. The rooms are all of the same floor plan with similar square footage. Very spacious with excellent bathrooms. The only difference lies in whether you want to pay for the super deluxe and get a plunge pool. When I mean plunge pool, I don't mean a tiny jacuzzi. but a truly decent sized pool right off of your terrace.
For the 1st night we stayed in the deluxe beach villa, with no pool. The rooms are very simple and not over designed, but perfectly comfortable. I presume they would rather you to spend your time outdoors instead. I agree, but beds were super comfy for those mid-afternoon siesta's
The rest of our days were spent in the super deluxe water villa- these are extra special not only because of the pool attached but they also happen to be located off a more secluded and private part of the beach with unobstructed views of the sunset. Privacy was also more than the regular deluxe water villas. I also suspect the landing/taking off of the sea plane would be quite disturbing near the regular water villas. We had no such problem. Highly recommend this category although they are more expensive.
Food: Was fantastic with an excellent choice of wines to go with dinner. We ended up going with the buffet dinner with choice of main most nights, but do visit the restaurant by the main pool. It was worth it just for the privacy it afforded since everyone usually ate at the buffet.
Recreation: We hit the small but adequate gym a few times, there is also a tennis court.
We went on a snorkeling trip and a few dives. The waters are breathtaking!! Never seen anything like it.
You can borrow movies and books at the lobby if you need.
Spa: wish I had pre-booked, but I still had plenty to do.
Staff: Were always courteous and polite, but sometimes felt that if I had been lighter skinned, I may have gotten exceptional service. Its the case all over Asia. I only wish the attitude would change.
All in all an idyllic trip. I loved it so much, that I insisted that my parents come on they're 30th anniversary to Zithali!
