I'm getting married in a few weeks - so 6 of us traveled to Spain for 5 nights / 4 rounds of golf for my stag doo. It was booked through yourgolftravel.com - and the service we received from them was top class.
We flew to Alicante airport as Murcia didn't have suitable flight dates for us. It was approximately 80-90 minutes transfer (don't listen to the 1 hour that the tour companies / brochures state!) but it seemed to pass quickly enough.
Check-in was quick and painless. The receptionist spoke great English. She informed us about the eating arrangements and the resort free bus.
Our rooms were a few minute walk from reception. The room was clean and a decent size - with all the basics we needed. A pair of twin beds, dressing table, wardrobe, iron / board, kettle (tea & coffee), large bathroom and a balcony with a couple of chairs / table. There was also a nice flat screen TV which had loads of English channels (Sky One, Sky Sports 1,2,3, ITV, ITV2, BBC, Sky News etc). As it was just a room (not an apartment) we were paying for, we had a maid who cleaned up after us!
We followed the map from reception trying to find the local supermarket. It was quite a hike - but it let us see some of the village. We stopped at a bar for a drink before the journey back - and the barman said he'd get the resort bus to collect us. We stood outside for about 30 minutes before walking back! Apparently the resort bus can get hijacked by golfers in the afternoon!
We tried a couple of bars / restaurants which were really nice. The Last Straw for the Shalke v Man Utd game, and then Si for a meal afterwards.
In the morning we went to the Deli Cafe in the Los Lomas village as it was where we got our included breakfast. It had a pretty limited selection of food - but it all seemed fresh (apart from the out of date yoghurts!). As I only really eat cereal and toast for breakfast I was covered! We also discovered that the Deli Cafe had a small supermarket - so we didn't have to walk miles for bottles of water anymore!
The resort bus proved to be more reliable when being picked up from the hotel or the golf clubs. We played the North, West, South, West. The courses were all great - but none of them were easy! Unfortunately we had hurricane winds when playing the South course which made 200yard+ par 3's into the wind near impossible! The West had very narrow fairways and tight dog legs - which meant the driver stayed in the bag for most of the round! They asked for handicaps - but no certificates. We had half price buggies as part of the deal from yourgolftravel - but what they neglected to mention is that you have to book them! It was fine for the first 3 rounds, but on the 4th round the buggies were all out so a couple had to get powercadies (from 1950!) instead.
Throughout the 5 nights we ate in several restaurants. Si, Luigi's, Mr Chans, Uncle Sams - and had lunch in both golf club restaurants. Luigi's was excellent - but pretty pricey. Mr Chans had a very extensive menu - but them watching us eating was a little off putting. Perhaps it was just because we were there so early and they had no one else to serve? Food was great though. Uncle Sams had some nice American steaks / burgers / ribs etc... and Budweiser on tap! Si had a variety of food, and was a really nice place with loads of TV's on the wall (ideal for the Real Madrid v Barcelona game we watched there!)
We visited the Los Lomas outdoor pool one afternoon which was nice enough. The one opposite our room was closed (seasonal) but the one beside the Deli Cafe was open. We also went to the indoor swimming pool one morning before golf. They make you buy / wear a swimming cap though. Odd since I probably have more hair on my chest than on my head!
All in all we had a great time. The resort is great and geared up for golfers. Would I stay in Los Lomas village again? Probably! Its not as well located as the Principe Felipe hotel, but then it was considerably cheaper. The bus is fairly frequent, but at busy times we had to wait 15-20 mins as it only carries 8 people at once. On the last day they were running 2 busses... but the resort was fairly quiet when we were there so I don't know how they'd cope if busy? The 12euros a day WiFi was dreadful - don't bother with it!
