Visiting Genoa, Italy

With a long and important history stretching back centuries, the port city of Genoa is Italy’s sixth-biggest and has Europe’s largest old town. Via Garibaldi (formerly Strada Nuova) is known for its many Baroque palaces, and the city is also famous for its carruggi (narrow alleyways). Piazza de Ferrari, the main square, is home to the Palace of the Doges and the Teatro Carlo Felice; the birthplace of Christopher Columbus is nearby. Acquario di Genova, Europe’s biggest aquarium, is a must-see.
