The island, with its fast and fickle tides, was a notorious prison during the French Revolution of 1789. The isle, which celebrated its 1300th anniversary in 2008, has several good restaurants and a nightclub. We stayed in the (only?) family room. Nice and large, the children's room could have slept 3. 2 in singles below, one above in the loft. Amenities were OK - nice large bathroom. Some construction...more

As you arrive by car, you see the mont rising up in front of you. Photographs do not do it justice, the scale is immense. The car park is a fair walk away as the tides come in quickly, there are signs...more

Do not go if you are elderly, infirm or traveling with children. This would be a misery for you. The narrow paths are slippery cobblestones and steep staircases, winding, up and downhill. It...more
