Anguilla is a gorgeous little island in the Eastern Caribbean and is part of the British West Indies. Anguilla is about 16 miles long and nine miles wide at its widest point. The island has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. The Caribbean-side beaches have calmer waters and the Atlantic-side beaches have more waves. The water is crystal clear and warm. This island has a small airport and is also accessible by a 30 minute ferry ride from St. Martin. The peacefulness of Anguilla is hard to find elsewhere. Due in part to laws that prohibit jet-skis and the fact that most hotels and villas are very expensive. The island was a little-known paradise, but celebrity sightings, an NBC wedding special and new golf courses have made the island more famous. The high price of a vacation in Anguilla, though, keeps it a relatively private place. Two hotels, Cap Jaluca and Cuisinart, are actually quite popular honeymoon spots, but are the only "touristy" places on the island. The locals are very friendly and polite. There is minimal, if any, poverty on the island of approximately 12,000 people.
