Barbados has one airport. The Grantley Adams International Airport . Its IATA code is BGI. The airport is in the south of the island and is 16kms from Bridgetown , the capital.  There is only one terminal at the airport.

The airport has won prestigious awards such as Caribbean's Leading Airport at the World Travel Awards. It is also a runner up for this year's ceremony. World Travel Awards.

The airport is always open as long as flights are arriving and departing. The airport usually starts check-in from 4am everyday. Most flights arrive between 1pm and 6pm. Fridays and Sundays by record are the busiest days at the airport with numerous charter flights adding to the congestion.

A business centre is provided by the Club Caribbean Lounge, with fax, internet facilities and meeting rooms available. British Airways and BWIA first and business class lounges also provide fax and internet facilities.

Over 200 taxis serve the airport, including Barbados Transport Co-op, Quintette and Tours , with journeys to Bridgetown taking approximately 30 minutes.

To reach the airport by car, take the ABC Highway which runs from Bridgetown to the airport; it takes about 30 minutes. The airport is also accessible from the Highway 7, along the southern coast.

There is sufficient parking available at the airport, with a capacity of up to 600 spaces provided.

Construction at the Airport continues with the installation of air bridges as well and the construction of more parking aprons planned for the near future.

The Information Desk in the terminal is open daily from 8:00–22:00.

The check-in area of the airport is not air-conditioned. However, the waiting area is and has seating for 2,000 persons per hour.
