Roseau provides a city of culture on an island of countless adventure-inspiring opportunities. Outdoor recreation is the major highlight on Dominica as the sea is the perfect water playground while the land is full of incredible natural sights to discover on foot, bike, or jeep!
Hiking and walking is a tourist favorite as it allows adequate time to really appreciate the lush landscape of Dominica. There are numerous trails in and near Roseau and throughout the island varying from easy beginner paths to advanced and challenging terrains. For example, novices can enjoy the Trafalgar Falls path which starts just 4 miles outside of Roseau in the small town of Trafalgar, best known for its twin waterfalls. The level path brings visitors to an ideal spot to enjoy the waterfalls. Slightly more challenging is the Middleham Falls hike which begins 5 miles outside of Roseau in the rainforest. Again the path takes hikers to a top-notch viewing area of the waterfall and takes about 3 hours to complete.
Horseback riding, cycling, and ATV jungle rides are incredibly fun ways to explore Dominica. Check with Dominica's online tourist board for the guide tour listing.
Cabrits National Historic Park is a superb way to enjoy the natural beauty; an 800 acre marine reserve, it features great walking paths, historic colonial ruins from the early days of European settlement, as well as a museum to learn more about the area's civilization history and its flora and fauna.
