
The current National Palace, house of the Dominican Goverment has an image that captivates over the profile given by the modern architecture that projects the historical city of Santo Domingo.
The Presidental house has a total area of 25,000 m2, and 18,000 m2 of construction, it was designed by the italian arquitect Guide D´alessandro Lombardi this work of neoclassic lines was inaugurated on August 16, 1947. To the original Construction wich is preserved entirely, there have been added adjacent areas that facilitate the acces and handling requires by the governmental works of the modern state.
The National Palace is the house of the Nation and the head office of the Dominican Government. It is a symbol and expression of the Dominican sovereignty and the place where important decisions are taken and the political are plans for the good develpment of the country.
Each of its spaces exhibits the attaction of the diverse architectural styles conceived by the creative genius of its builders. But in them is also printed the trace of memorable moments conformed from the past and present that shape the history of a tree and independent, vigorous and progressive, generous and hospitable country.
The corners of this house always find a way of reminding that it belongs to this village.Therefore, its doors are permanetly opened to all the Dominicans as well to the foreigners.
The interior ambience unites symbols of the past, present and furute of the Dominican Nation:
Salon of the Caryatids: its the most impressive salon with 600 m2, also called salon of the mirrrors with 24 mirrors and 26 caryatids the ones serve as a column succession . Tree french chandeliers stand out in the ceiling adorned by geometric panels inserted in stained glasses. This salon is a place for not to forget, its the salon of gala, the place where the state celebrates great occasions.
Salon of Ambassadors: As the name sugests, the Salon of Ambassadors is the place where the maximum representative of the Dominican state receives the credential letters of the diplomatic corps accredited in the country. Its touch of elegance and abtinence comes both from the neoclassic lines of italian as french furnitures, and aslo from the victorian stule in the designed, emphasized by 12 doors of dominican mahogany and crystal, five of wich lead to the terrace of one of the inner yards as well to the balconies.
Green Salon: The green salon where the green color reigns on its set of baroque style and marble, its preferred for small receptions and warm welcome to personalities that distinguish in a special way such as the pope Jean Paul 2nd in 1992. A cornice covers the whole longue exhibiting an embellishment similar to the french style of louis XIV and Louis XV.
Council of Goverment Salon: The council of Goverment salon is the loungue of task of the modern state, the place where the president meets with hes Gabinet.
The Palace of the Dominican Republic also has the Dinning Salon, the Salon of the Mahoganies. It also has a Chapel called teh Chapel Saint Rafael in honor to the dictator Trujillo´s first name ´´Rafael´´. It became part of the environment in 1958, desingned by the Dominican arquitect Guido D´alessandro Lombardi.
The Dominican Palace has plenty murals and also a Gallery of all the presidents from the Dominican Republic.
Procedure to follow in order to visit the national palace of the Dominican Republic
If you wish to visit the National Palace , seat of the Dominican government, and learn about its history and architecture you’re welcome to submit your request to the tour department. Offices are open from 08:00 AM to 07:00 PM, Monday through Friday.
The guided tours must be requested with a minimum of 10 days in advance and are scheduled Tuesday through Friday from 10:00 AM to 12:00 M and in the afternoon from 03:00 to 06:00PM.
The tours last approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes and include a 10-minute video.
All tours are free of charge and may be subject to last minute cancellation or postponement.
The use of photo cameras is allowed on the premises.

Submit your request via fax (809-686-0252) to offices, addressed “Dirección de Edecanes”, or via email to leydenrodriguez@presidencia.gov.do, nicolemichelen@presidencia.gov.do
Your request should include the following information:
1. Reason for visiting.
2. Number of visitors, maximum 50 (specify quantity of children included).
3. Specify visiting date and time.
4. Attach list de of visitors’ names and passport numbers.
5. The request most be signed.
6. Please notify if there are visitors in wheels chairs or with other mobility disabilities.
Dress Code
Short or long-sleeved shirts, no jeans, no shorts or short skirts, no sneakers or flops.
Children must be older than nine years.
