The Mona Passage is an aprox. 100 mile wide stretch of water that separates Puerto Rico from the Dominican Republic.

The waters of the Mona Passage are notorious for being rough, as you can imagine because these are the same swells that make Rincon Puerto Rico an international hot spot for surfers.

Right in the middle of the Passage lies Mona Island (the namesake for the Passage). Mona Island is a small island which belongs to Puerto Rico. The entire island is a natural reserve and is virtually untouched by man. Wildlife and nature are abundant and the island is considered the Galapagos of the Caribbean
