Ponce, Puerto Rico is opposite San Juan on the South side of the island. The Mercedita Airport is small and has limited airline service.

Jetblue, Continental, Delta, and American Airlines have offered direct flights from New York City and vicinity airports since 2004. The airport is located within a couple miles of the city's major resorts and attractions.

Although the airport does not have a web site, there are several ground transportation options at the Mercedita Airport. Contact the resorts in advance to coordinate Hotel shuttles. Taxis, buses, and rental cars are also available within the terminal. Travelers should rent a car online or by phone for stronger reliability.

North Americans find an ease with driving in Puerto Rico because traffic laws are similar to those in the United States. Drivers navigate on the right-hand side of the road.

Puerto Rico does not require passports, visas, or Customs inspections from United States citizens. Other travelers follow the same documentation guidelines they would upon entry into the United States.

Alternatively, the San Juan Luis Munoz Marin International Airport is less than a two hour drive from Ponce. Frequent flyer mile collectors and bargain hunters may prefer a flight to San Juan and can drive to Ponce. The drive is a direct route along the A-52.
