There are many places to shop in the British Virgin Islands, and for residents of North America and Great Britain, the goods are duty-free. Main Street in Road Town on Tortola has a lot of nice small boutiques that sell casual clothing, perfumes, local crafts and jewelry. Larger stores include BVI Apparel, Latitude 18 and Sea Urchin, all of which specialize in beach necessities, brand-name clothing, souvenirs and accessories. Shops such as Arawak Designs Boutique, Pusser’s Company Store (both on Tortola) and Nauti-Virgin Beachtique (Virgin Gorda) sell beachwear and related island products as well.

There are many places to buy jewelry, especially on Tortola. Colombian Emeralds International (which has several outlets throughout the Caribbean) offers a wide selection of gems, all of which are duty-free, thanks to special customs regulations regarding purchases made in the Caribbean. There are also The Jewelry Box, Samarkand Jewellers and Caribbean Jewellers.

Groceries can be found on Tortola at Bobby’s Market Place in Wickhams Cay or Riteway Food Markets in Road Town. Gourmet food is sold at the Caribbean Corner Spice House and Pusser’s Company Store, also on Tortola. On weekends, there are also open-air markets where you can find fresh produce and locally made wares. Greet the vendor clearly and cheerfully; politeness is a tradition on the Islands and courtesy will get you helpful responses, if not better prices.
