Taxis are widely available throughout the island and your accommodations manager will probably have a list of recommended individuals or cab companies. Most cabs are individually owned and operated and the drivers should be licenced taxi operators. Rates vary and you'll want to ask about them before accepting a ride.
If you plan to do any sightseeing, you'll probably want to rent a car for at least a part of your visit. Rental cars are widely available and vehicle selection varies by company. You can get anything from a sub-compact car to a minibus to rent. The driver will usually have to be at least 25 years old and have a valid licence from his/her country. It will also be necessary for them to purchase a visitors driving permit for US$20.00.
Remember to drive on the left and obey the speed limit signs (which are in Miles Per Hour), and above all else, don't drink and drive.
