This Danish fort was constructed circa 1749 and was partially rebuilt in 1771 after hurricane damage.  It is the best-preserved of the five remaining forts in the VI, and it houses the park’s visitor’s center. “Christian’s Defense” was named in honor of King Christian IV of Denmark and Norway .  Its design was based on standardized European military architecture and took 11 years to build.
