Junkanoo is a big festival for the locals of the Bahamas.  It is held the day after Christmas and on New Years Day every year.  It begins at 2:00am and runs until 8:00am.

Local bands compete for prizes.  Ornate costumes, native dancer and band member playing goat skin drums, trumpets and cowbells march down the streets to cheering crowds.   Junkanoo members perform at special events during the year. You can catch them at Johnny Canoes on Friday nites, as well as other hotels throughout the week.  This is always a treat.

Rake and Scrape - This local music is made up of members playing items such as Saws, screwdrivers, pipes and hammers.  This unique style is usually melded with drums or a guitar and makes quite a sound.

Soca - A more soulful sound of the Bahamas.  More like calypso and blues.  This music usually tells a story.
