Paradise Island is part of the Bahamas, and anyone who is not a resident of the Bahamas must fill out an immigration card before being allowed to enter. The card must be kept during the entire length of the visit to the Island, and returned when the trip is over – so it should be kept in a very safe place. In addition to an immigration card, all visitors must declare what they are bringing with them to the Bahamas.
When it’s time to leave Paradise Island, any person over the age of six has to pay a departure tax of $15. Anyone leaving the Bahamas and heading to the United States must take a trip through United States Immigration and Customs Department. The U.S. Customs Department allows only a certain amount of Bahamian goods to be transported into the country. Canadian residents and residents of other countries will undergo a customs check with their home country, and the rules and regulations on what may be brought into those countries will vary by location.
There are relatively new rules by the United States that any United States citizen traveling to and from the Bahamas must carry a valid United States passport with them. More information about this is located on the Department of Homeland Security’s website.
