Bahamian cuisine is a blend of spices influenced by Spanish, West Indian and British cultures with an island flare.  Local favorites include conch prepared in a salad, frittered with an amazing dipping sauce, chowder, johnny cake (which is similiar to corn bread), peas and rice, boiled fish, guava duff with a sweet creamy sauce for dessert!

Most local Restaurants featuring local cuisine are located in Nassau and near Cable Beach.  If you're in the mood to try the local fare get in a cab or on the jitney and head over to Bamboo Shack on Nassau Street, Arawak Cay Fish Fry between Cable Beach and downtown Nassau, Cafe Skans downtown near the Straw Market, Travellers Restaurant on West Bay Street, or just ask your cab driver where he likes to eat.
