The Saturday Market on Salt Spring is this west-coast island's most popular seasonal event. It takes place each Saturday (yes, rain or shine) from about Easter to Thanksgiving in Centennial Park -- right in the middle of Ganges village, and right at the water's edge.
There are artisans and food producers of all kinds. These include jewelers, sculptors, potters, painters, farmers, musicians, authors, chefs, etc. The main thing that makes this market stand out from the others is that all vendors have to " make it, bake it, or grow it " themselves. So you really do see unique items made on the island, and not the same 'crafts' that are found in every other so-called artisan's market in North America.
Expect to sample locally made cheeses, breads, and all manner of eclectic fare. You can buy food to take home for preparation later on, or for a picnic, or you can just stroll over to the park's edge and sit in the grass for a snack while watching all the interesting people go by. There might be music in the park, or a dance demonstration or some other surprise event.
Tip: Get there early, while vendors and farmers are setting up to find the best selections. Depending on the season, fresh produce, breads, baked goods etc can run out before the end of the day. Also, parking is at a premium, so it's best to get there early and plan for several hours of wandering, meandering fun times.
