In March, Saint John holds a lively St. Patrick’s Festival. The celebration lasts for one week.
On May 18, Saint John celebrates Loyalist Day, on which the city celebrates its birthday. Saint John is proud to be Canada ’s first city, and this celebration is like a big birthday party.
In June, Saint John hosts the Festival de la Baie Francaise, a celebration of the French language and French-Canadian culture. For the most part, the festival consists of musical performances and community events.
In July, Saint John utilizes its historic areas and waterfront to hold the Salty Jam Music Festival (formerly the BMO Nesbitt Burns Jazz and Blues Festival). The music is of a dazzling variety of styles, including blues, rock, blue grass, reggae, and folk, with both local and international musicians performing.
Also in July, there is an annual craft festival in Saint John . Officially called the NB Craft Council Rothesay Craft Festival, the event takes place outside and features many different handmade items.
Festival by the Sea has unfortunately been cancelled after a twenty year run; a severe lack of funding and a dated well-used formula was not enough to keep it alive.
In September, there is the Continental Drift International Short Film Festival. This annual event draws visitors from all over the world.
