There are many things to see and do in and around Saint John . Saint John is an old and historical area, and therefore it is home to many museums and attractions dedicated to educating the public about its culture and heritage. Saint John is also home to many natural wonders as well as historical monuments.
One of the most amazing natural wonders in Saint John is the famous Reversing Falls. As the incredibly high tide rises in the Bay of Fundy, it causes water to rush in toward the St. John River; roughly six hours later, as the tide ebbs, the water rushes in the reverse direction. It’s a phenomenon unlike any other in the world. The best place to view the Reversing Falls is at Fallsview Park; it is best to see it twice, at high tide and at low tide; the Tourism Saint John website (linked above) has tide tables for the area which will enable you to plan to visit at these times. Photographers should note that across the water from Fallsview Park is a large and unsightly industrial facility, which means that a typical Saint John fog will actually be a bonus for your photos of the Reversing Falls. Thrillseekers can take a jet boat ride through the reversing falls area when the rapids and whirlpools are at their most intense.
The oldest museum in the Saint John area is the New Brunswick Museum. It’s actually the oldest museum that has remained continuously open in all of Canada. Inside of the museum are items such as fine art, items of geological interest, and there are several exhibits related to the natural history of the area.
Carleton Martello Tower National Historic Site: Round Martello towers are scattered across Eastern Canada. The Carleton Martello tower was built during the War of 1812 between Canada and the United States, and continued to be a military installation until the end of World War II. The stone tower gives a panoramic view of Saint John on clear days, and on foggy ones, it's quite easy to go time-travelling with your imagination. Interpretive staff from Parks Canada are on hand to explain the tower's history and answer questions.
Cherry Brook Zoo & Vanished Kingdom Park : This zoo houses more than 30 species of animals that can either be classified as exotic or endangered.
