There are two suspension bridges that span across Halifax Harbour, joining Dartmouth and Halifax. If you are spending time in the area this summer, you need to know a couple of things to make your trip across the span a little easier.

They no longer accept tokens. Only the 'Macpass' and quarters/loonies. It's .75 to cross, but the machines will accept a loonie. Don't expect your change back though.

The bridge tolls are on both bridges on the Dartmouth sides. Take a look for which toll station you go to, because some of them are for "Macpass" only. These are electronic readers people buy and put in their windows to automatically pay without slowing down.

There is one toll station that is manned and they will provide you with change.

On the Halifax side of the bridges, both of them will take you to Barrington Street if you so wish. They are clearly marked, and easy to get to. So if you want to head downtown, that's an easy way to get there from the Dartmouth side, without having to drive through the city. Hop on the bridge and take Barrington St. right downtown.

PS: If you get caught on it in traffic (8-9am and 4:30-6pm) and it's REALLY windy, the bridge sways. No worries, it's normal.
