You can take a visit around the Ontario Hydro Beck 2 Generating Station, at the Queenston end of the People Mover Bus Route. The tour takes you down a lift the height of the Dam Wall, along a long tiled tunnel, past a few diagrams and pictures of the installation and into a comfortable room where you are shown some videos of the installation, history and ongoing construction works. You are then invited to look down into the generating room to see just the tops of the turbine generators, the maintenance workshops, and a view over the river, followed by a look at a time chart showing the history of power generation in Canada. Then back along the tunnel and up the lift.
If you're an engineer, or find technical stuff exciting, you may be disappointed in the tour. The facility cites 'health and safety' reason for limiting access to certain more low-tech areas. You can visiti their website, though, to learn more about this installation from www.opg.com.
Admission is $9 per person.
