Musee de Ursulines/Museum of the Ursuline Order in Trois-Rivieres, Quebec
This museum is an addition to a present day working Ursuline Order monastery, girl's boarding and day school that has been in existence since 1697. On display is a room full of scientific instruments the Ursuline Sisters used to teach their students, surprisingly sophisticated for their time, covering chemistry, geography, and physics. The Ursuline school mess hall is also on display and also shows the Sister's and girl's uniforms dating from the 1600s to present day. The traditional black uniform and habbit of the Sisters is on display. Inside the courtyard is the Ursuline Order graveyeard, with tombstones as recent as 2004, still in use today. The chapel is ornate with lots of intricate woodwork, gold leaf, and paintings on the ceiling and walls. Because it is a working chapel visitors are asked to be quiet and no photos are allowed.
Visits are not allowed to the working monastery nor the girls school. Museum admission: adults $3.50, kids under 12 free.
