One impressive and family friendly stop in Quebec is the Musée de la Civlisation , depicting centuries of Quebec's history, natural history exhibits, and other items from around the world. Quebec is also a very educational and historic place, with several noteworthy museums. One is the Naval Museum of Quebec and another is the Musée du Fort, which details the military history of Quebec, particularly the pivotal battle on the Plains of Abraham, where the city fell under British control. The whole family will probably love a stop at the Chocolate Museum , which sells chocolate while also telling the story of the tasty treat. There is also a motorcycle museum, called the Musée de la Moto, and a wax museum, the Musée de Cire de Québec. A different kind of museum is the Québec Experience, more of a multimedia presentation.
Younger children may enjoy the indoor amusement park on Boulevard des Galeries called the Mégaparc.
Outdoor family fun abounds in Quebec City year round. The riverfront is a popular destination in the summer for boat rides and other pasttimes, nature reserves abound in the region, and in the winter, there are toboggan rides to enjoy, either in the Old Town on Dufferin Terrace near Château Frontenac, or in the self-proclaimed largest winter playground in America Village Vacances Valcartier (open 4 seasons - huge swimming pool with waves, and water slides in summertime). In the coldest part of winter, the famed
Winter Carnival takes place in February every year.
And finally, Québec City is a great place for snacking. The kids will love the many sweets and chocolate stores in the city, or perhaps they'll become fond of the regional artery-clogging specialty "poutine", which is sold almost everywhere.
Chez Ashton (there is one on Grande-Allée), a chain of small restaurants, locally established for 37 years, is well known for its poutine.
