In the winter, all manner of snow activity is the center of sports in Canmore, and a trip to the Canmore Nordic Centre is considered a necessity for most people. It was built for the 1998 Winter Olympics and features miles of cross country and biathlon trails.
Although there are many advanced courses at the nordic centre, even beginners will find trails for them and even lessons as well. If you arrive in Canmore during the summer, you can use these same trails for hiking and mountain biking. This center is a central destination point for visitors to Canmore and thousands come each year, so be prepared — especially in the winter — for a crowd.
For a walk with a view, consider Grassi Lakes, where you can enjoy a beautiful view of the mountains and the ultimate reward — a beautiful waterfall.
If spectator sports are more your thing, head to a Canmore Icecats game, where you can watch amateur hockey players do their thing, or enjoy the sled dog races that are part of the Winterfest celebration each winter. In August each year there are mountain bike races in the Rockies and a half marathon in September.
