You’re probably not going to Canmore to soak up its museum scene, but if you decide you want to learn more about the area and want to take in some cultural energy from museums, there are at least a couple to choose from.

Canmore Museum and Geoscience Centre is a museum celebrating Canmore’s history but also its local biology and geology. Here, you get a museum visit and science lesson all in one.

The Canmore museum tells the stories of the Canmore settlers, the coal miners and rail workers. There’s a large amount of coal mining equipment on display, including restored coal mining lights which highlight the evolution of the coal mining lamp from early times to today. In addition, the museum hosts a sports section which highlights the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics and Canmore’s important role in that.

The geoscience centre pays homage to Canmore’s location at the Canadian Rockies and interesting and varied geology.

Other museusm to choose from in Canmore include the Passing of the Legends Museum in the Rafter Six Ranch Resort. Here, you can enjoy seeing Native American handcrafts and artifacts. Or check out the Canmore Public Art Gallery, where you can see the works of various local artists.
