Chatham is the major commercial centre in the Medway Towns, merging into the historic City of Rochester to the West, and the town of Gillingham (known mainly for its football club) to the East. Its significance came from its strong Naval connections, which live on in the Historic Dockyard, the main reason to visit the town.
