This park, located about 30 minutes from Kendal, is a favorite destination for walkers, cyclists, climbers, spelunkers, and horse riders in England. The park offers peace and solitude, quaint villages, and thrilling adventures. Cyclers can choose from miles of country roads for beginning to advanced riders, and from quick jaunts to extended, day-long journeys. Along the way, stop by picturesque villages and attend a town gathering before eating at an authentic, family-owned restaurant.
You can also visit the
Dales Countryside Museum, which tells the story of the residents and the land that comprises the Yorkshire Dales. Displays illuminate themes ranging from prehistoric times to modern transport and religion in the Dales. The museum is located in the town of Hawes, just off the A684 in Wensleydale. Open daily from 10am to 5pm. Admission is £3 for adults and free for children.
You can drive to the park, which is bordered by the A6 to the west, the A66 to the north and the A1 to the east, but the park discourages driving. Instead it encourages the use of public transportation, such as buses and trains. Extensive details for getting to the park can be found on the website,
here.
