Taxis and rental cars are both good options for getting around while visiting Keswick.

Because this city is fairly small, getting around Keswick by taxi can be a fairly inexpensive form of transportation.  There are a few taxi companies based in Keswick.  Taxis can be found at major public areas such as the train station, but away from these areas they are hard to come by.  The best way to get a taxi is to call one of the above-mentioned companies ahead of time to arrange for a pickup.  Hotels will be happy to make this call for their customers, as will most restaurants and bars.  Fares are determined by meters (based on distance traveled and time spend driving), which are government regulated and standard for all companies.  Taxis are good for getting around the city, but if planning on exploring areas outside of Keswick, consider another form of transportation (see the Trip Advisor Getting Around page) such as a rental car.

Although the great public transportation network available in Keswick generally eliminates the need for a car, a personal vehicle is the most convenient way to explore the area.   Most people visiting Keswick will fly into Manchester, Birmingham, or one of the London based airports.
