Climate

Sheffield is warm in the summer and fairly cold in the winter - typically temperate. 24-hour average temperatures reach 60 degrees in the warmest months of July and August, and drop to about 40 degrees January through February. This doesn't mean it doesn't get hotter or colder than that, though. Temperatures are known to climb as high as the nineties in the summer and to drop below freezing in the winter. There is usually snow some time during the winter.

Sheffield succumbs to England's notoriously dreary weather especially during the months from November to March. This means that there is frequent rainfall and lots of cloud cover with few sunny days. If you visit Sheffield during this time, bring a rain jacket and waterproof boots. You don't want to miss out on the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors, which are especially beautiful near Sheffield. On the other hand, spring and summer are  often very pleasant times of year. Expect fresh green leaves, flowers in bloom and mild weather.

On and Off Season

Sheffield is not known to be especially touristy. However, more people visit the area during the summer, so expect amenities to be in shorter supply during this time. Also, since Sheffield is host to two large and popular universities, the majority of students leave during the summer, so some venues that cater for students may not be as lively when they are gone. The city has a lively club scene and is the home of the Republic night club which hosts "Gatecrasher" - a driving force in the club music scene for the last ten years. The city has spawned some huge musical heroes - from Joe Cocker to Jarvis Cocker and from Def Leppard and The Human League to The Arctic Monkeys
