Newcastle upon Tyne has a strong sporting tradition, as the city is home to the rugby union team, Newcastle Falcons, at Kingston Park. For those who like lower league football you could watch a game at Gateshead or Newcastle. Next season 2009/10 you could watch Newcastle playing teams like Peterborough, Doncaster and Blackpool in the fizzy pop league. A word of caution, if you are in Newcastle on a match day don't loiter around in phone boxes if Newcastle have lost. Newcastle fans are are very vocal at one point fans were urged to bouycott the club. Newcastle fans are also very proud particularly about the fact that they have a local airport.  Those visiting this area who would like to see English Premier League football can take the short journey on the Metro to watch the north easts top football team Sunderland A.F.C. play teams like Manchester United at the magnificent Stadium of Light.

The city is also home to a racecourse, where over 2 dozen important horse racing events are held every year. Tickets for races may be bought online at their website, www.newcastle-racecourse.co.uk, with a single ticket for a normal race in the range of ₤10 to ₤30. Be warned; though there is no official dress code, it is still a good idea to dress well for the races if you do not wish to stick out too much.

If you wish to get some exercise yourself, gyms like Healthlands, Newcastle Leisure and Body Logic are quite plentiful throughout the city. Sports clubs and associations are also available to help with equipment or court rental for games of cricket, rugby, lawn tennis or basketball as well as in the vast parks located to the north of Newcastle University (Exhibition Park) and to the east of the city (Heaton Park).

Other ways to get fit in Newcastle while having some fun is renting a bike from M Steel Cycles or catching a game of golf at the City of Newcastle Golf Club.
