Edinburgh 's Royal Mile is one of the most famous streets in the world and a must see for all visitors to Edinburgh .  It is in the Old Town, the historic heart of the city, and guards the secrets to Scotland 's past. The best way to explore is on foot, although it is steep in parts, but there are also plenty of bus tour options.

The Royal Mile, which is actually a little over a mile, boasts Edinburgh Castle at the very top and the Palace of Holyroodhouse at the bottom. The iconic Castle offers fantastic heritage and some amazing views of the city while the Palace is still home to the Queen when she's in Edinburgh.

The area hosts many attractions, restaurants, bars and shops and you can easily spend a whole day here exploring the main street as well as the Closes coming off it - there is plenty to see and do for both adults and children.
