To experience Mary King's Close is to step back in time.  A Close means Alley way. The homes and apartments dating back to the plague, were used to support a government building that was built on top of these structures in the 1700. There are tours of the close several times a day. These are done by a guide in period clothing who has detailed knowledge of each home in the alley.  You descend down into the alley and visit several homes, as well as walk down several streets, most has been left in original condition, Do wear flat shoes as the lighting is not that bright and you will be walking on cobble stone streets and floors.  If you are interested in history or ghosts or both, this is a fun tour to take.
