Getting around in Glasgow is pretty easy.  The best way to explore the city centre is on foot, the streets are laid out in a grid system like USA cities so grab a map (free ones from the Tourist Info in George Square) and it’s hard to get lost!   Don’t try to get around by car in the city centre, you’ll just waste time in traffic jams and looking for parking spaces.

A great way to see, get around, and learn about the city when you first arrive is to jump on the City Sightseeing bus tour that leaves from George Square.  It’s a good way to get your bearings and see what the city has to offer, and you can get off and on the bus at many locations around the city with the same ticket. 

If you’re heading to the west end then use the Subway/Underground transport system.  The best place to get off for the West End is Hillhead Station on Byres Road – you’ll be in the heart of the shopping and bar/restaurant scene there.

If you’re heading a bit further out of the city to any of the attractions on the South Side then there is a bus ticket you can buy that allows unlimited travel on the city bus network for a full day – the tourist version includes a map of the bus routes and you can buy this from the Tourist Info in George Square or Buchanan Street Bus Station.  Be aware that some tourist attractions can be quite a walk from the nearest bus/subway/train station so a taxi might be a better idea if it’s raining!  It’s best to check on the website of the attraction you want to visit for the best way to get there if it’s a bit further out. 

Glasgow is a fantastic city to explore and base yourself in, but if you have some extra time don’t miss a trip to Edinburgh for the day.  Direct trains run four times an hour from Glasgow Queen Street station direct to Edinburgh Waverley
