Urquhart Castle is a ruined stronghold of medieval Scotland on the shores of Loch Ness. The Castle once controlled access through the Great Glen and was fought over by the English and Scottish, and by Highlander and Lowlander. On the hillside immediately above the castle, there is now a visitor centre run by Historic Scotland as well as a small museum describing the history of the the fort and its surroundings.
