There are several distinct neighborhoods of interest to Isle of Skye visitors. Those neighborhoods include:
- Portree - The main town on Skye, offering most hospitality (some hotels, many B&Bs) and facilities (supermarkets, shops, banks, petrol station).
- Broadford - Chances are Broadford will be the first place you get to after arriving at Skye, since it is on the main road north to Portree. Broadford has a number of hotels and B&Bs, a supermarket, petrol station, etc.
- Uig - This is where you can get ferries to the Outer Hebrides.
- Carbost - Home to the Talisker distillery, but also near the Glenbrittle road that is of interest to walkers, climbers and anyone who wants to see the Cuillin close up.
- Dunvegan - Home of Dunvegan Castle, the seat of the Clan Macleod in Skye. Other than that Dunvegan is not large, offering a couple of shops and a hotel or two.
- Kyleakin - The most famous attraction in the neighborhood is the Castle Maol but travelers also come to the area to see the original port through which ferries originally reached the Isle of Skye.
- Sligachan - The crossroads of Skye, you will inevitably drive through Sligachan on the way to Portree or Dunvegan. The only thing here is the hotel and campsite, but (on a clear day) take time to stop for the views of the Cuillin.
- Staffin - A small scattered village on the north-east coast, Staffin has a secluded charm all of its own. A number of B&Bs can be found here.
- Armadale - The landing point of the mainland ferry from Mallaig, this is also the home of the Gaelic college, Sabhail mor Ostaig, as well as Armadale castle with its gardens and the Clan MacDonald centre.
