Old Pub Super Pub

This will attempt this helpful article on Limerick nightlife, hoping to help those interested and unsure about where to go and what to see. Limerick has everything you need, from the locals bars right up through disco bars, wine bars, superpubs up to strip bars.

You will notice that there is attached, an estimated age group that the pub attracts rather than being the minimum age allowed to enter.

The thriving city of Limerick has everything the interpid travellers needs. If you like a quiet bar with a local atmosphere,  Limerick has it. If you like grunge music Limerick has it. If you like to dance the night away,  Limerick has it and like mentioned above if you want to watch "somebody else" dance the night away,  Limerick has it.

The easiest way to break this down is to concetrate on different segments of interest. Limerick is the home of rugby and is called sporting limerick so  Limerick has Rugby pubs. There is peter cloghessys bar on Howleys Quay. This large pub has everything from breakfast through lunch, evening snacks right through to late night entertainment and has a nightclub downstairs called the sinbin to continue that rugby theme. Mid 20's +

There are other rugby pubs with one right around the corner. Gerry Flannery of Ireland and Munster rugby has a pub on Catherine Street. This is amongst the others with food during the day and evening entertainment at the weekends. Mid 20's +

On the dock road you have Dolans pub and restaurant. This has live music during high season 7 nights a week. This is a popular place for young and old alike and usually attracts tourists and coaches. They open at 7am and usually close at 2am. They also house Dolans warehouse where comedy and musical greats perform. You should google limerick events calendar for more information or google Dolans. Mid 30's +

On Georgoes Quay you will find the Locke Bar and restaurant. This is very popular for tourism and is very busy during the summer months as you can sit on the river bank.  mid 20's +

The Old Quarter which is off Denmark and Ellen Street is a very lively bar. During the day you can have breakfast and lunch and it is open until 2am most nights. Mid 20's to early 40's

There is mojos bar on Patrick Street. Another disco type late bar. Lively bar. Mid 20's - early 40's

There is Nancy Blakes on Denmark Street. This is a very popular tourist bar, especially with the Spanish for some reason. It has a courtyard called the outback which is great for smokers as you are still covered and dont have to go inside for the bar. It can get very very crowded in this place. Mid 20's +

Across the road is Smthys Bar and Icon nightclub. Smyths bar is probably limericks largest, most popular and busiest superpub. During the day you can expect a reasonable and tasty carvery lunch and sandwhiches. In the evening other than Saturday night you can find live music. You can party away in the nightclub next door. Not recommended for a quiet night. 18+

Across the road again in Flannerys. This is a very new superpub. Highly recommended for a good night out for mid 20's upwards. It can get very busy but just enough room to move relatively comfortably. Good for smokers. 20's +

 Flannerys Bar Denmark Street.

On Thomas Street you can find Aubars pub and nightclub. This is a popular place during the day for food as its surrounded by many coffee shops on a pedestrian street. Its lively in the evening and has a nightclub downstairs. They like to keep a certain air of white collar clientele in this place. Its popular but only with a certain type of person.

Around the corner is Micky Martins. This is a small poky little bar with limited seating outside. Its just around the corner down an alley. Its welcoming and due to its size can be exceedinly busy. Its on the quiet end of things but not tumble weed quiet. 20's +

On the same street is the Still House. This is a good little bar. Small enough again but usually has the same clientele coming and going so its never going to be jammed. It would be more of a locally frequented place as opposed to a tourist spot. Good for a starter drink to decide on other places to go. 20's +

Further up O'Connel Street you will find the Bank. It was formerly a bank but of course now its a pub and restaurant. Its an award winning restaurant and they do a mean steak but if Im recommending steak, try the Texas Steakout next to Eddie Rockets(downstairs) on O'Connel Street. The Bank is uptown so its near for people staying in the Glentworth, Jurys and the Clarion. Its a relatively busy bar/wine bar/restaurant but not very lively. Quiet night bar 25+

On O'Connel Street is also The White House. Its a small bar and has a very good gay scene. On Wedsnday nights there is an open poetry reading. Small and cosy for a relaxing drink. 25+

Upper William Street there is a small "Old Man's" pub called TC's Bar. The surroundings, character's and quality of beer here mix well to create a great atmosphere.

There are others bars. More updates to follow, this is just a quick snapshot.
