Or try one of many 'buffet' restaurants which are generally Chinese (Buffet City on Portland St, Number One or Shangri La on Whitworth St) or Indian (Grand Buffet on Princess St). Prices at these places are silly, starting at £5 for lunch. The quality is fantastic as there is lots of competition too.

Manchester is renowned for its 'Curry Mile'. Well over a hundred Asian restaurants side by side with the odd grocers or sari shop in between. The area is about 2 miles from the centre - grab a taxi for around £7 or get the bus (41, 42, 142, 43, 143) for £1.30 from the gardens. If you're here for longer than 12hours you have no excuse! Go now!

For a snack while out shopping try Rockers in Dale Street.  Styled like an American diner it sells burritos, sandwiches, filled rolls, root beer, American desserts and does an all day breakfast all for very reasonable prices for the centre of town.
